90年初一顆閃耀的新星誕生，那就是以處女作 "Vision of love" 走紅於歌壇的 Mariah Carey，這位被喻為 Aretha Franklin 、Whitney Houston 接班人的後起之秀，挾2座葛萊美獎(最佳流行歌曲演唱、最佳新進藝人)和首張專輯6白金的餘威，於'91年推出第二張專輯 "Emotions" ，再度展現其渾厚的嗓音及餘音繞樑的演唱技巧。

Mariah 在專輯中包辦了所有的詞曲創作，並與首張專輯的製作人 Walter Afanasieff 及 C+C音樂工廠的 David Cole合作。首支單曲 "Emotions" 以戀愛中的女人對感情的執著為題材，成為 Mariah 第 5 首冠軍單曲；Top 2 抒情曲 "Can't Let Go" 充分流露 Mariah 豐富的情感；"If It's Over" 是她與老牌民謠女歌手 Carole King 合作的曲子，在歌曲的詮釋方面，Mariah 時而低吟委婉、時而嘶吼吶喊、是一首上乘之座；Top 5 的 "Make It Happen" 在輕快舞曲節奏下，亦有堅強的意志力與自我的期許！
